The Facility

Something Borrowed It’s the big day and the rustic, elegant charm of The Barn at the Ackerhurst Dairy Farm offers you a truly unique setting in a one of a kind event venue. The beautiful Dutch Gambrel style barn was built in 1935. A businessman and dairy farmer from Boston named Anthony W. Ackermann hired Adolph Otte who was an architect and builder from the nearby town of Elkhorn, NE., to construct the barn. Upon its completion, the Ackerhurst Dairy Barn was described as the largest barn in Nebraska. The barn is rectangular in shape and is constructed of wood with a concrete block foundation. The Barn is nearly two hundred feet long, as long as a twenty-story building is tall. The Barn, though constructed as two levels, is as tall as a four-story building. In a newspaper article in the Omaha World Herald it was described that the Ackerhurst Dairy was “one of finest dairy farms in the Midwest”. Little did Mr. Ackermann know back in 1935 that his dream would someday become a location responsible for the beginning of a lot of dreams.

Something New In 2002, the barn was designated a “Landmark” by the City of Omaha's Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission. The same month, it was listed on the National Register of Historic places. Most recent renovations include additional HVAC, new and updated restrooms, an elevator, wedding party quarters, catering kitchens, restoration of the Haymow Floor, and much more In addition to weddings, The Barn can be used to host a variety of events such as corporate dinners, anniversary parties, prom, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthday parties, fundraisers, class reunions and company meetings/retreats. With three different areas to choose from, we are able to accommodate small meetings to large celebrations.
